On Saturday the 20th of June 2016, the Kimberley Photographic Awards were again held in Derby. The awards night is part of a week-long exhibition of images captured in the Kimberley region.
The overall winner during 2016 was Craig Williams from Broome for his photo titled the Circle of Life. The award shows a turtle returning to nest on a Kimberley Beach after many months at sea.
This year, Buru Energy sponsored the “Open Non-Kimberley Resident” award category. This particular awards is for amateur and professional photographers living outside the region who are inspired to capture Kimberley related images. The winner was Bob Hall from Queensland for his photo titled “Pandanas at Lomadina”. As Bob was on a photography expedition to Antarctica, the awards was accepted by his sister Marjorie Busby.
