Environment

Buru recognises that strong environmental performance is a measure of our success. We are committed to achieving our HSE goal of Zero Harm, planning and undertaking our operations in a sustainable manner by minimising impacts on the environment. Buru strives for our goal of Zero Harm through the setting, monitoring and reporting of health and safety objectives and targets.

These include no reportable HSE incidents, the implementation of an effective HSE Management System that is regularly audited, ensuing all personnel are trained, competent and fit for work.

Buru works closely with our stakeholders to ensure our projects minimise impacts on sensitive areas. We have adopted a continuous improvement process to continuously reduce the environmental impact of our operations.

Regulatory approvals

Buru Energy's operations are regulated by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and, where required, the Environmental Protection Authority. We have ongoing audit programs in place to ensure compliance with our statutory approvals.

Projects

Buru Energy’s projects contribute to the understanding of this sparsely populated and under-studied region with information made publicly available to all interested stakeholders. An example of our commitment to research is Buru Energy’s support for a PhD research program at Murdoch University titled “Disturbance Ecology of Bilbies in the Canning Basin”. This project collected fundamental ecological scientific information on the Greater Bilby with collected data made available to traditional owner, pastoral and environmental groups. Much of the fieldwork associated with the bilby project was undertaken with local ranger groups, taking advantage of traditional knowledge and insights into the environment
